March 4 Freedom members joined their fellow Ethiopian Americans in successful candlelight vigil to observe the first anniversary of the former Judge-and the Unity for Democracy and Justice’s Chairwomen Birtuakn Midekssa’s imprisonment on November 29, 2009, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, outside the White House in Washington .
Ethiopian Americans made a demand to President Obama’s Administration to increase its pressure on the Ethiopian rulers for the unconditional and immediate release of Birtukan Midekssa and several thousands of political prisoners. They also demanded that the US support the causes of Ethiopian freedom, democracy and human rights.
The candle light vigil was organized by the Andinet Metro, Free Birukan Group, Ethiopian American Civic Advocacy and several civic and political organizations.
