A Call for protest to demand the release of Ethiopians detained by Saudi Arabia

Saudi Protest 1

Sunday, March 18, 2012

The suffering of our Ethiopians who travel to Arab countries for domestic employment is beyond description. Many have been killed, beaten, burnt, flogged, raped and put into prison. A large number of Ethiopians are being forced into prostitution. The despicable act of human rights abuses and the disregard to human dignity described above should be condemned.

The human rights abuse against domestic workers in Arab countries has gone from bad to worse in recent years. The incidence of their suffering has reached a point where all people have to speak up on their behalf. A gruesome video that is circulating on YouTube and Facebook which shows an Ethiopian women being inhumanly treated by a group of Lebanese men is a depiction of the horrible situation many face in the Middle East.  Similarly, many Ethiopians have been thrown into prison in Saudi Arabia facing long term imprisonment for exercising their religious rights on Christmas.  All people should unite irrespective of their political, religious, gender, and social difference to stop outright insult to human dignity.

A demonstration rally has been organized at the Saudi Arabia Embassy to protest against the injustice and inhuman treatment of those who are imprisoned, demand their immediate release and ask for respect of human rights for those residing in Saudi Arabia.

Please join the protest!
