Ethiopian Community Dinner with Amnesty International USA

Ethiopian Americans from Washington DC metro area attended a meeting hosted by the Amnesty International USA today.

At the Dinner, activists discussed the deteriorating human rights conditions in Ethiopia and efforts that should be taken to address the growing violations by Zenawi’s regime against Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards.

Speakers included, Birtukan Mideksa a former judge & prisoner of conscience now a Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellow, and Adotei Akwei, the Africa Advocacy Director for Amnesty International USA and his Amnesty International team members.

During the open dialogue session, participants discussed a range of human rights issues including unlawful killings, torture, arbitrary arrests, rights to religious freedom, rights to freedom of expression, Ethiopian refugees abroad and advocacy in the Diaspora.
