TPLF CC Issues a Statement, Declares Plot Against It Has Failed – Ezega

TPLF-statement-Apr2019April 13, 2019 (Ezega.com) — The Central Committee of the Tigrayan People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) held a meeting this week and issued a strongly-worded statement decrying the worsening political and economic situation in Ethiopia.

The TPLF Central Committee meeting was held in the run-up to the upcoming Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) leadership meeting next week. The EPRDF leadership meetig is being held next week, starting Monday April 15, at the request of TPLF.

According the statement just released, the TPLF leadership seems to be taking increasingly stronger positions against Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s leadership on several fronts.

The TPLF leadership declared that the plot that has been going on for many months to destory the TPLF has failed.

It accused undisclosed forces of recruiting and sending agents and traitors against the organization from both the north and the south. Further it said, the people of Tigray will not kneel and the enemies of our people will not succeed.

The statement accused the current leadership of the EPRDF of eroding the constitution and creating lawlessness around the country. Ethiopia is nearing a failed state status, the statment claims. Contrary to what it was before, the country may not defend itself currently, and may even require foreign intervention should trend continues, says the TPLF.

The TPLF Central Committe lays the blame squarely on the current leaders of the EPRDF, who it says are responsible for all the failures that happened in the last one year.

The TPLF leadership believes the way forward is to return the EPRDF to its former roots, original principles and pratices. Our original principles and practices brought us uninterrupted developement, peace and security for many years, the statement indicates.

The TPLF leadership rejected any plans of merger with various regional parties, as previously announced by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. Earlier in the year, in February 2019, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed had said that the ruling coalition party in Ethiopia, the EPRDF, will transition into a new national party that is open to all Ethiopians, regardless of ethnicity, religion and other metrics. According to the current statement, the TPLF say such a plan is impractical and unthinkable within an organization in disarray.

The statement from TPLF leadership concluded by calls for all like-minded Ethiopian forces to come together and work to improve the grave situtation the country is currently in.

Given the hardline position the TPLF has taken, the upcoming meeting of the EPRDF leadership is likely to be contentious. It remains to be seen whether the front will come together or continue drifting apart or even disintegrate.
